The Last Airbender New Commercial

•February 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

This is the new Superbowl commercial for The Last Airbender. I truly cannot wait to see this film. I am more excited about this film more than any other this year. Can’t wait to see Shyamalan’s version of one of the best animated series of all time.

Movie Reviews: The Book of Eli, Youth in Revolt, The Fourth Kind, & It’s Complicated

It's Complicated

When I watched this film I was totally expecting to despise it but was pleasantly surprised. Not only are there many laugh out loud moments, it has a great cast and story. Not my cup of tea but still pretty good.

The Fourth Kind

This film was recommend to me by a couple people. One person even said they thought it was better than Paranormal Activity. So I was pumped to check it out but it really isnt anywhere near as scary as Paranormal Activity. Too me this seems even more fake. Its definitely not a total failure: Jovovich is still smoking hot, it definitely made you think about alien abduction, and it is supposedly based on true stories/video.

Youth in Revolt

This is a wierd, vulgar film that has the feel of a Superbad type movie. Only problem is it is nowhere as good as Superbad. Cera’s character that he does for all of his movies is still super funny. Gets a little crazy towards the end but there are enough laughs here to definitely warrant a watch.

The Book of Eli

This is a decent film with a interesting story and a couple of crazy fight scenes that are quiet incredible. The post-apocalyptic movie definitely has the feel of a western. The story is layered in religion and the end has one of a crazy twist. A little too crazy. Definitely worth a watch.

Movie Reviews: The Invention of Lying, Daybreakers, The Lovely Bones, & Armored

The Invention of Lying

This movie had great promise and the first half of the movie is pretty good but towards the end its gets boring … and the end is pretty crappy. Ricky Gervais is funny … just needs better material.

Daybreakers

Definitely one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen. A great cast and unique story make this the first stand out film of the year. Be warned this is a hard R film with tons of gore but its definitely worth it. I you are looking for something a little more manly than Twilight then this is definitely what you want!

The Lovely Bones

I saw the trailer and Peter Jackson’s name attached as Director and instantly wanted to see this film. I haven’t read the source material so I can really compare on that note. It was a weird movie with some great moments but overall wasn’t as impressive as I thought it would be. All the digital stuff in the “in between” that is suppose to the visually stunning was kind of boring and pulled you out of the main story too much. This movie is definitely worth a watch but don’t get to excited.

Armored (Armoured)

Nothing special. Worth a watch on a boring day. At times quite brutal but pretty predictable. It was wierd seeing Laurence Fishburne as a crazy bad guy.

Movie Reviews: Whip It & Brothers

Brothers

Very dark and disturbing. Everything lines up with the trailers. Nothing unpredictable. Its definitely worth a watch though. Natalie Portman is amazing.

Whip It

Ellen Page from Juno. Kristen Wiig from SNL, Drew Barrymore. Basically a girl wants to join a Roller Derby but her mother wants her to do beauty pageants. Sounds exciting right? This is a definite chick flick but an above average one. I was entertained. Jimmy Fallon was hilarious with his part as well. There is a random food fight and its pretty predictable. But this is a good one to watch with your lady friend.

Top 10 Movies of 2009 !!!

•December 25, 2009 • 1 Comment

http://quimbys.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/space_top10_abduction.jpg

Every year I come up with list of my 10 Favorite films of the year.  Usually I just list them from 1 to 10 with no real commentary or reason why I chose the films. This year I wrote over 100 mini reviews on flixter/facebook for all the movies I had seen. So, this time I decided to list them from 10 to 1 saving my pick for movie of the year for last with my original review of the movie when I saw it. This is just my personal taste of the movies I see throughout the year. I know everyone has different tastes but I give almost all movies a chance. Anyways here it goes:

Top 10 Movies of 2009

http://screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/district-9-trailer.jpg
#10| District 9

Excellent scifi movie. Very original and unique. I love the fake documentary type footage and the mech suite thing. Definitely one of the best movies of year!

#9| Year One

I don’t know what all the negative reviews for this movie are getting at. People are being way to harsh. Compared to alot of the recent spoof type movies this movie is the cream of the crop. Not to mention the two stars are hilarious. This is probably one of Jack Black’s best movie in awhile. Sure its not perfect and goes a little overboard in spots but most of the movie I couldn’t stop laughing. For a PG-13 comedy it doesn’t get much better than this. I even liked this better than the Hangover which to some was the best comedy of the year! Definitely a must see.

#8| Zombieland

Extremely funny at times. Not perfect but definetly the best time I have had at a zombie movie. Way better than Shawn of the Dead to me. I love the zombie kill of the week, the zombie survival rules, and the slow motion stuff throughout the movie. Definitely made it a more original film. Good Stuff!

#7| Up

Pixar is amazing and proves once more they are the best! Like Wall-E this movie is not just for kids. Pixar brings deep thought provoking story and mixes it with bold creativity, quirky characters, and the most amazing computer animation to date! Finding Nemo was my favorite Pixar movie but Up is right there with it now. I was really looking forward to “Ice Age 3″ & “9″ but Up definetly was the better film by a mile. A must see and one of the best movies of 2009!

#6| (500) Days of Summer

Every once in awhile I’ll really get into a romantic comedy. I know weird right? For example, I am a huge fan of Garden State. This time the surprise hit for me is (500) Days of Summer. There is a ton to love here: its Tarintino style cuts, great cast, great story, and very funny laugh out loud humor. Not to mention it really isnt a love story more of a real take on relationships. But I wont ruin it for you. A definite must see of the year.

#5| Sword of the Stranger

There are not to many movies that I immediately want to rewatch right after finishing. But this is definitely one of them. First of all the opening credits in this movie are amazing. Right from the get go you can tell it is going to be action packed! The animation/story/soundtrack/fights are all superb. Whether you are new to anime or not you have to check out this amazing masterpiece! You wont be disappointed.

http://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/terminator_salvation__m.jpg
#4| Terminator Salvation

This is a great movie! Intense action, amazing special effect, i loved the sound effects especially. This is probably the second best Terminator movie behind T2. Lots of jumpy parts thrown in too … a true summer movie experience. A couple small things I didnt like … Bale’s batman voice … random sony product placement (and Im a Sony fanboy) but product placement in movies is retarded. I ignored the Nokia gayness in Star Trek but i had to bring it up this time cause its getting on my nerves. The story at times was lacking. But overall I really enjoyed the movie and cant wait for the next two films.

#3| star Trek

I am not a huge trekkie, really only liked the next generation and a couple of the original movies. This is without a doubt a masterpiece of a reboot for a franchise that was near death … great special effect … awesome story … and surprisingly great acting from mostly unknowns. Looking forward to many sequels. J.J. Abrams is a genius and everything he does is amazing. He has turned scifi geek material into mass audience appeal without killing off its original fan base. Cant wait to see what he has planned next. It was a great start to the 2009 summer movie season!

http://bookreviewsbybobbie.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/transformers-2-shia-labeouf-and-megan-fox.jpg?w=234&h=158
#2| Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

This is exactly what a summer movie is suppose to be. Intense non-stop action, amazing special effect(sound effects especially), hilarious comedy, and a better story than the first movie. I was a fan of the first film but this movie is a million times better. I have always loved Micheal Bay films and this is definitely some of his best work. I love the Bad Boys II poster in the dorm room … lets see a Bad Boys III Mr. Bay!

And now for my pick for Movie of the Year:

http://www.tenlinks.com/news/PR/solidworks/images/122109_james_cameron2.jpg
#1| Avatar

Avatar is an amazing, beautiful, magical, masterpiece! Breathtaking visuals mixed with a great cast and one spectacular story. I’ve already seen the movie twice and would go see it again in a heartbeat. For my first 3D IMAX experience I was simply blown away by the technology … it took some getting use to but it was incredible. This movie is almost beyond explanation. It is simple one of the best experiences I have every had in a movie theatre and cannot wait to buy this on Bluray! This is not only the best movie of the year but it is one of my top 3 movies of all time! A must see experience!

Some movies that didnt make my Top 10 but are still great flicks for 2009: I Love You Man, Surrogates, The Uninvited, The Hangover, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, Adventureland, Law Abiding Citizen, Paranormal Activity.

Movie Reviews: Sherlock Holmes, Couples Retreat, & All About Steve

•December 25, 2009 • Leave a Comment
Sherlock Holmes

I really had no previous experience with anything Sherlock Holmes. All I knew is that he was a detective. That was it. I saw the trailers and like Robert Downey Jr. so decided to give it watch. Great cast, pretty good story, a lot of action too. This movie was pretty good. Not perfect though. Had its slow, boring parts … and the overall look of the movie was extremely dark. I don’t know if this was on purpose but it just felt odd. Anyways … give this one a try. Definitely a decent flick.

Couples Retreat

A couple of funny one liners but I really think this movie was aiming to be more serious then funny which made the trailers seem a little misleading. It wasn’t horrible but you wont be missing much if you skip this film. Did I mention that it has a run-time of over 2 hours!

All About Steve

Average comedy. Nothing too special here. There are a couple moments that had me laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair but unfortunately it is not sustained. The real problem is the ridiculous story that feels more like a 30 min TV show stretched to almost 2 hours. A good rent.

Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds

Inglourious Basterds

ehhhh …. it was ok. Good dialogue as usual for a Tarantino movie. But I couldn’t get that into it. Descent and much better than the last Tarantino film I watched, Death Proof. I’m way more interested in Kill Bill: Vol. 3 though!

Top 10 Worst Movies of the Year 2009

•December 21, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I watch a lot of movies. I give movies that most people wont even give a chance, a fair shake. But when something is bad, its just bad.

http://quimbys.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/space_top10_abduction.jpg

And now my list for the Top 10 Worst films for the year 2009:

#10| World’s Greatest Dad

Dark and disturbing! I love Robin Williams but this movie I just couldnt understand. Very depressing. Want a better dark Williams film … see One Hour Photo!

#9| Planet 51

Its never good when a movie puts you to sleep. Especially not good when your 4 year old daughter gives up on it 20 minutes in. Everything is boring about this film … the story, the animation, the comedy. Skip it! If you want good family animated films, this years Up and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs are great choices.

#8| Crank 2: High Voltage

I really liked the first film. Its crazy over the top action and vulgarity is what made it unique but the sequel was a little too much for me to handle. Too much nonsense and too many things that were plain wrong and not funny. I can see this franchise going the way of the Saw movies.

#7| Land of the Lost

A few laughs here and there but overall this is an extreme disappointment of a movie. This is Ferrell’s worst since Elf. Watch Taledega Nights or Blades of Glory instead. Much Better Ferrell films.

#6| Paper Heart

I just didn’t like this movie. I know it was trying to be different and cute but I just wasn’t feeling it. Even the documentary stuff was not very interesting to me and I like good documentaries. Extremely boring … not very funny. Skip this for sure.

#5| Bruno

Garbage … Borat was watchable this is not! It’s not even funny. Stay far away from this trainwreck of a movie.

#4| Push

Ridiculous plot … horrible acting … cheesy dialog … the cool special effect can not save this train wreck of a movie. Oh did I mention the director loves the in your face shaky cam too … one of the worst things action movies are doing lately … Don’t waste your time! Skip this crap.

#3| Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Felt like Die Hard in a Mall but way more ridiculous. Some funny moments but barely worth a watch. Kevin James is a funny guy he just needs some better material.

#2| Dragonball Evolution

Dragonball is one of my favorite Anime series. It is what got me into Anime in the first place. So when I watch this miserable piece of crap of a movie I was so disapointed. I think I cried a little. Dragonball fan or not … this movie is garbage.

And now my pick for Worst movie of the year 2009 is:

http://www.stuffwelike.com/stuffwelike/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/phmytonmvsctqo_m.jpg

#1| Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

One of the worst movies of all time! Story and corniness aside, even the fight scenes where bad! Stay far away from this train wreck! The only video game movies I can recomend are the Tomb Raider or Resident Evil films. Or try Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.

Next week after I watch my final film of the year, Sherlock Holmes,I will post my Top 10 Favorite Movies of the Year including my pick for Movie of the year! :)
